Forbidden Jungle is coming, and sooner than you think

Gamewright is teaming up once again with cooperative board game designer Matt Leacock, for the new board game Forbidden Jungle. This will be the fourth game in the series, and even though Forbidden Sky didn’t land. Forbidden Island is a brilliant introduction to modern board gaming, and Forbidden Desert is still one of the best cooperative games out there.

However, given how badly Forbidden Sky did with both critics and players, it’s a welcome surprise to see another board game added to the series. The description from the publisher is as follows:

In Forbidden Jungle, your team has crash-landed on a mysterious jungle planet, and you need to work together to survive. Search the ruins of an abandoned outpost for an elusive escape portal, all while fending off an ever-growing horde of venomous creatures and an escalating chain of collapsing locations. Shift tiles to power up the portal and live to see another day!

Beyond this description, the picture above shows the wonderful return of the metallic board game tin. Although these can be a pain to stack on your shelves, hopefully, it signals a return to form for the series.

When is Forbidden Jungle coming?

While there’s no official word on when Forbidden Jungle will be released, Game Nerdz has a pre-order page already published with a delivery date of the 29th of March, 2023. This means there has only been a month turnaround from announcement to release – that is pretty quick!

Along with this date comes a list of components:

• 42 cards
• 24 tiles
• 24 web tokens
• 20 eggs
• 15 hatchlings
• 12 alien creatures
• 6 pawns
• 6-meter clips
• 1 threat meter
• 1 threat meter stand

While there’s no mention of a flying ship or rocket, there are several non-generic components, like eggs, hatchlings, and alien creatures. So I’m hoping this confirms the continuation of the “toy factor” or tactile element to the game that we’ve seen from the series before.
