The more I blog, the more I sway away from the bigger board game sites. Not that they’re bad, it’s just that there are so many people out there making fantastic board gaming content, and better suited to my tastes. There are going to be a few familiar faces here, but enjoy the fruits of my internet browsing!
Start Your Meeples
Start Your Meeples is easily one of my favourite board gaming blogs. Luke does a great job with his content which ranges from in-depth strategy guides to quick fifteen-minute reviews.
I particularly like his series where he compares different versions of the same game and tries to objectively determine the best in the series. Here’s his article on the different versions of Pandemic.
Dude! Take Your Turn
Dude! Take Your Turn is written by Dave who has both a similar name and writing style to me. So I always feel right at home on his blog. Although he leaves me envious with how many articles he puts out. It’s truly impressive.
Fortunately, we also share similar tastes in games. So I’m always excited when he puts up a new review, to see if it’s something I’d also be interested in. Here’s his review for Imhotep.
Boards and Bees
Boards and Bees, has been up around before Honey Buzz and Apiary made bees and board gaming cool.
They’ve been writing a long-running series called Board Game Buzz, where they talk about an upcoming board game and the buzz surrounding it. Here’s the latest on the upcoming board game City of Kings, have a look.
These articles are always well-written and usually alert me to a game that I’ve missed. As a result, I devour these articles like a fat man devours a wedding cake.
Sword, Board and Pen
Unfortunately, Sword, Board and Pen is no longer around. However, when they were I thoroughly enjoyed Andrew’s Top 10 Games lists.
One of his lists was on dice games. As someone who usually hates the randomness of dice, some of these games intrigued me. So much so that I ended up buying a couple.
To Play is Human
Rebecca over at To Play is Human is currently doing a blog series showing off creative, and beautiful, custom modifications to games.
It’s a great series that makes me think: I can do that. If only I had time, money, and motivation. You know what, on second thought… that’s never going to happen.
Anyway, go read the latest entry. It contains clay doughnuts that look good enough to eat.
Geek Sleep Rinse Repeat
Geek Sleep Rinse Repeat provides weekly updates on what they’ve been up to. While not always focused on board games, it’s always interesting.
I enjoy reading along each week to find out what they’ve been up to. In their latest check in, they talk about the fun they’ve been having newly released Warhammer 40k video game, Vermintide 2.

Also, for some reason WordPress was saying I was following you, and then your blog widget was giving me the option to subscribe again – so in the confusion, I have now clicked every button I see to subscribe.
I wouldn’t worry about it, that subscribe button has been through so many iterations, I don’t think it knows its purpose anymore.

Analysis wise, it’s funny you should say that. There are still a few franchises to do, but then there are mechanics and other categories to also look into 🙂
I’m trying to look at themes in games at the moment to see how viable that is for analysis – breaking down specific themes/genres etc. So, I’ve broken down Cthulhu (it went live about an hour ago), and I’m thinking about doing a Food one next. They’re knackering as they require literally two evenings worth of solid work, but they may be an option.
Other than that, I’m open to suggestions. Do you have any ideas?
