Alderac Entertainment Group have hit Kickstarter this week to launch their new game Let’s Go! To Japan. Designed by Josh Wood of Cat Lady and Santa Monica fame, comes a game about planning your trip to the beautiful country of Japan.
Spawned from a vacation that never happened because of COVID, Let’s Go! To Japan is designed from a place of longing. Players must draft cards and put together the most exciting trip to Japan. In doing so, you must take into consideration the different experiences on offer during your vacation.
However, you also need to take into consideration your mood. Too many stressful activities or too much rushing from one activity to the next can negatively impact your happiness levels.
Let’s Go! To Japan is a simple drafting and set collection game, although instead of activating your drafted cards throughout the game. You only activate them once at the end. Meaning you’ll have to use all of the foresight you can muster in order to do well.
But this is very in keeping with the theme of planning a vacation. Where you sit down and figure out what you want to do, but only once you’re on vacation do you reap the rewards of that planning.
This is the key selling point for me, having done the Japan trip myself, it was simply amazing and a vacation I look back upon fondly. Going through the art and pictures on the Let’s Go! To Japan Kickstarter page gives me waves of nostalgia from our time there.
Let’s Go! To Japan delivers a deluxe edition!
Beyond the gameplay and Josh Wood’s reputation as a designer, it’s the deluxe edition that has me sweating like I just ate a fistful of wasabi. As there is so much included.
Starting with the deluxe components:
- All tokens upgraded to wood
- The scorepad upgraded to a score journal
- Added fabric bags to store all of your components
It doesn’t end there though, as there’s a Day Trip expansion included, which is to be sold separately. Plus additional components to play up to 5 players.
Yet, it doesn’t stop there either.
Also included are 4 custom ceramic bowls printed with a pattern specifically designed for the game. This is such a cool idea, as they’re the perfect size to hold your board game pieces on the table.
Lastly, Let’s Go! To Japan will come packaged in a unique Furoshiki Cloth. After it fulfils its duty of getting the game to you safely, it could make an excellent addition to your walls.
