If you’ve thought me absentminded over the last three weeks you’d be right. Between the Rugby World Cup, and the League of Legends World Championship I’ve been drained. It also didn’t help that all the teams I’ve been following got knocked out early.
So, I haven’t been following the board game news too closely.
And it’s been pretty underwhelming.
Thankfully there is IELLO.
They’re looking to have a very strong Q1 2020. Starting with TAGIRON, a game from Ryohei Kurahashi. A straight forward deduction game like Cryptid but with code cracking instead of monster hunting. This won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. But it’ll be like catnip to me.
Then there is the small box game Time Bomb Evolution. A social deduction game where bombs are planted around the table, and one team tries to defuse them all. The first of this series was something I sought after for months, but was unable to get my hands on. What interests me is that it looks more deduction than social. Which for me works, as I’m not a massive fan of calling my friends liars.
And if that weren’t all, IELLO is also releasing a collectors edition of King of Tokyo, called the Dark Edition. While the cover art is spooky and just in time for Halloween, it’s the change in mechanics that interest me the most. Unfortunately, this edition will be part of a very limited print run, so you’ll need to keep your eye out if you want to get it.
There’s only a couple days left on the Zombicide 2nd Edition Kickstarter. The first being a fan favourite, but friendly fire rules, and it being super light have always put me off. This new version gets rid of both of my issues by removing friendly damage, and adding some new rules that will make the game more strategic.
Is now the time for me to jump on the Zombicide bandwagon?
High Frontier 4 All is the only other game I’m looking at. It’s a space exploration and industrialisation game, and this is it’s fourth edition. This time they’ve tried to make it more family friendly, but gosh, the board looks as though someone spilled a bowl of spaghetti on it. There are lines everywhere!
Only one more week of World Championships to go. Not sure what I’m going to do with myself afterwards. Probably play more board games! Oh and the new pokemon game coming out on the 15th.
I’ve stopped my crazy board game buying recently as my shelves are currently overflowing, and I have too many unplayed titles. The only two I’m really keen on are Tapestry, and the new expansion for Arkham Horror 3rd Edition. Is there board games you’re dying to get your hands on?
As a quick first impressions, I’ve been playing a couple games of Black Angel. I love it. Might be my GOTY so far. Hoping I find time to publish a review soon.
