Fowers Games Steals Our Hearts with Burgle Bros 2 and Other News

But before we get to that juicy nugget. I have another for you.

A new game from Jamey Stegmaier.

It’s been a while since he’s graced us with Charterstone which was divisive amongst fans. With some loving the legacy experience, some not so much. Prior to that he brought us the critically acclaimed Viticulture, and the even more critically acclaimed Scythe.

I’m excited.

Tapestry is a civilization building game that plays from 1-5 players in 90-120 minutes, and only has 4 pages of rules! Check out the teaser trailer:

Not to be outdone, Renegade Games announced the new title Circadians: First Light. A sci-fi dice rolling, engine building and worker placement board game that gives you 15 points in Buzzword Bingo. The design team is none other than Sam MacDonald and Shem Phillips. The same pair that knocked it out of the park with Architects of the West Kingdom.

Unfortunately, Renegade Games’ description is a bit all over the place making it hard to gain an understanding of how it will play. Nevertheless, it’s an exciting announcement and I can’t wait to hear more.

Hot on their heels of their Cyberpunk 2077 – Afterlife: The Card Game press release, CMON have committed to bringing Zombicide 2nd Edition to Kickstarter next year. They’re touting streamlined gameplay and 25 different scenarios linked by a branching story. Meaning there will be something for both new and old fans of the series.

In the same breath, CMON has also announced the finale of Eric Lang’s strategic trilogy; Bloodrage, Rising Sun, and now Ankh: Gods of Egypt. While not much in the way of gameplay has been revealed, be prepared for miniatures. A lot of miniatures.

After cancelling their first campaign, Shovel Knight is back for round two on Kickstarter. This time they’ve listened to the fans and included a cheaper cardboard standee version of the game. While it has an interesting side scrolling mechanic, the video showed nothing that excited me at all. This might be one for the fans.

From left field this week comes Mokuru Card Game from Jean Francois Rochas. A weird title, because it should be called Mokuru Dexterity Game. The cards are only a guide to describe what tricks you’ll need to pull off with their weird patented toy. This is the type of game that needs Kickstarter to get off the ground, so I’m glad to see it doing well.

Lastly, and what you’ve been waiting this whole news post for, is Burgle Bros 2: The Casino Capers. This time it’s HEAVILY influenced by the Ocean’s 11 series, and has you infiltrating a casino in broad daylight. It’s slimmed down the playing time to an hour, removed items in favour of abilities, and introduces campaign play to keep you coming back for more.

Which is all great, but nothing compared to the insert coming out of Gametrayz.

Not only does it nicely fit every tile and card in the game, but it also folds out into a raised platform so the second level of the casino sits on top of the first. Has Tim Fowers gone insane after creating the crazy box for Sabotage? Or is this a stroke of genius?

That’s all from me this week. What games are you most looking forward to?

Hey Cultists,

Just a heads up, but I’ve been made an associate writer for While that means nothing changes on Roll to Review, don’t be alarmed if you see my posts pop up there as well. In other news, my pledge for Vindication came in the other day and I’m dying to get it to the table. Also wishing Pax Pamir 2e didn’t melt my brain so much.

How are you going?

  1. Hey David,

Congrats on the new gig, all that hard work paying off! I’m trying to get things going again myself and have posted a new video review here:

It looks like you’re not down to receive email updates, but I though you might be interested to check it out. Cheeky I know, but any plugs would be much appreciated (assuming you enjoy it!)

  2. Wow, so much to reply to!

First, congrats on the new gig! That’s awesome to hear.

I backed Circadians: First Light and it’s supposedly going to be here around the end of September. It looked really cool and Shem/Scott can do no wrong in my book.

If you want to know more about it, go to the Kickstarter page:

Burgle Bros 2 sounds really cool, but unfortunately for me I can’t really justify the $65 CDN price tag (not to mention shipping, though I don’t see anything about shipping on the Kickstarter page). I would really love to play it when it comes out, though.

So Eric Lang has done Norse and Japanese mythology and now goes Egyptian, eh? I’m sure it will be blinged out like crazy. 🙂

    1. Man, I totally missed Circadians on Kickstarter. having a quick look – it does fit the bill of all those mechanisms. Interested to see how it goes, and looking forward to your review. 😉

With regards to Burgle Bros I think you’re right about the price tag. I’m umming and ahhinng about it as well, since it comes out to around 87 AUD. While I’m definitely interested, it might be a wait until retail for this one.

They have a few models for Ankh up on BGG and they look amazing so far. Though I haven’t played the other two yet. If you have any suggestions on where to start I’d love to hear it!

      1. Neither one are my type of game, so I haven’t played Blood Rage or Rising Sun (I had to actually scroll up to remember the name of the last one!)

Since Circadians and Paladins of the West Kingdom are coming at the same time (maybe in the same box?), I’m not sure which I’ll get to the table first!

Even if I don’t get a review up right away, though, there will always be the “new to me” post the month I play it.

        You’ll get something. 🙂

          1. Just saw a post from Shem on BGG, and while Circadians and Paladins are coming over to North America on the same ship, they’re not shipping together. Too much of a chance of shipping errors when merging their mail lists.

            Which I completely get.

So we’ll see which shows up first!
