Board Game News! 23/05/2019

Ted Alspach and werewolves.

Name a more iconic duo.

I’ll wait.

Bezier games is releasing a new werewolf related board game. The surprise is that this isn’t a new take on his One Night Ultimate Werewolf, Werewords, Werebeasts, or Ultimate Werewolf. It’s something new entirely.

It’s called Silver Bullet.

The box covers for Silver, and Silver Bullet. Two new games from Ted Alspach and Bezier Games.

A 2-4 player game where you start the game with 5 face down cards, but are only allowed to look at 2. Then on your turn you can either use a card for an ability or trade cards with other players. Some of these cards will be rascally werewolves, and the player with the least werewolves in their village at the end of the game is the winner.

It sounds pretty cool, like Mascarade but less whimsical. Depending on the price, I’m quietly excited.

What I’m not so quietly excited for is Pandemic: Rapid Response. The next game in the survival series. This time Matt Leacock teams up with real time game designer Kane Klenko.

I can’t wait.

I’m also wondering which designer is going to be next.

And secretly hoping it’s Vital Lacerda, and we get a super heavy and intricate game. With art from Ian O’Toole of course.

What do you think? Who should be the next designer?

Speaking of O’Toole, he’s done the artwork for an upcoming AEG game – Dead Reckoning. A 2-4 player card drafting game that has a whole garage sale of mechanics by the looks of things. Including tableau building, area control, and battle via a dynamic cube-tower. Oooo, fancy.

On Kickstarter this fortnight, Bruno Cathala and Ludovic Maublanc bring back an old favourite: Cleopatra and the Society of Architects. In it you have to build a temple for Cleopatra before she becomes too impatient. To do so you enlist the help of some unsavoury characters and gain corruption.

And that’s never a good thing.

From the creators of Mysthea comes the 2nd and 3rd titles in their trilogy: Icaion, and Mysthea: The Fall.

Both these new titles play 2-5 players.

In Icaion, a engine territory building and resource management Eurogame, you’re a seeker sent out into the wilderness to hunt for artefacts, Qoam, relics and remnants from ancient times.

Whereas Mysthea: The Fall is a full cooperative game based on a combination of the previous two games in the trilogy.

Lastly, my pick of the week: Raccoon Tycoon The Fat Cat Expansion.

A stock market and auction game it’s on the lighter side for sure. But it’s meant to play quick. It’s family friendly. And has a fantastic look about it. The expansion is meant to add a little more depth to the base game, but I’m using this as a chance to pick up everything.
