It’s that time of the week again. Where we look at the latest hotness arriving on the shelves, and on the Kickstarter front page.
Imagine Geoffrey Rush dressed up in a pink tutu with wings.
Now imagine him leaning into your ear. And in the accent that only he can do he says:
Well, ya best start believing in fairy tales.
You’re in one!
At least you are now. In Japanime’s release of Fairy Garden that is. An expansion for their deck-builder Heart of Crown. It should arrive in stores today!
With an additional 230 cards to mix things up, it adds quite a bit to the original game. Or at least that’s what the press release says.
Our next release is Tiny Towns from AEG. Coming to a FLGS near you on May 10th. Keep a tiny eye on this one as following their announcement of only releasing a few games a year. They’re betting big on these small cities. It’s a polynomial laying game like NMBR 9 or Barenpark, without the polynomials.
What sort of black magic is this?!
My pick of the week goes to Level 99 Games.
Having fallen in love with both Argent: The Consortium and Millennium Blades, and impatiently waiting for Empyreal: Spells and Steam I am looking at new and creative ways to throw money at the company. Thankfully, I got an email about their new offerings of which the subtext was D. Brad Talton Jr. yelling: buy this you idiot!
Introducing Pixel Tactics Legends!
All the Pixel Tactics you could ever need all wrapped up in a convenient box.
I have a bit of hangover from the imprint Terraforming Mars and On Mars left on my wallet. But that doesn’t stop me checking out what’s hot.
For instance: 18Chesapeake.
Who’s introductory video says it has a quick play time of 2-3 hours. Which made me do an audible double take – haha wha?
While I’m more comfortable with triple X and XXXX. This game
gives you an introduction in 18xx games. A type of train, stock simulation, which
are meant to be amazing as they are dense. So I don’t think there has been a
better time to pick one up.
Sticking in the same weight category. A deluxe version of Clinic has opened funding. It looks amazing. With art from Ian O’Toole, and gameplay that looks like it’s taken straight from Theme Hospital. This looks like new board game crush. As I love those management type games.
But that’s enough gushing. Check it out.
Another game worth your attention is Space Race. Which has the best Kickstarter video I’ve seen in a long while.
Beyond that, it’s an engine building game about racing into space. It’s the successor of their card game which was well received. It also has great art. \
What’s not to love?
The final game I’ll point out is A Game of Thrones The Card Game. I do not recommend kickstarting this game. As it’s either an A+ troll or some poor fella who’s a few beers short of six pack. But the way the creator has italicised ‘it could be as big as Pokemon?’ you’d have to think it’s the former. Either way everyone is having a bit of fun with the project.
Anyway, happy reading!
In personal news the countdown to my birthday is on. And I have two wishes. The first is more board games. The second is people to play them with. Which, if everything goes right, will happen. So I’m looking forward it.
