In terms of actual news this week, there hasn’t been too many announcements. Or at least not many I’ve been interested in.
I wonder if this is the way board gaming is going to go. With everyone milking the Kickstarter cow, and fewer publishers going straight to retail. Are we going to see less, and less news announcements?
Anyway, this week sees the release of Stonemaier Game’s Wingspan hitting the shelves. I already have this one on pre-order, and early reviews put it as a lighter Terraforming Mars. With birds. On Earth. Meaning I’m all for it.
Some more details of FFG’s Journey to Middle Earth have arrived. I’m still hyped up on this one. It’s taken some time but the wounds made from the last hobbit movies have finally healed. And I’m ready to dive back into the world of Tolkien.
Lastly on the news front, a game that I’m not sure anybody wanted? Talisman: Kingdom Hearts. I love the trend of video games lending their IP to board gaming. However, these two are not ones that I’d immediately put together. So I’m interested to see how it goes.
Now onto Kickstarter.
Before we get into the games themselves. I wanted to give a shout out to these custom Terraforming Mars tokens. They are beautiful! And while not everyone can afford them – I know I can’t. They’re still a joy to look at:
Speaking of beautiful. Have you seen Iwari? The art is out of this world good. The game itself looks interesting. An abstract area control/route building game where you score points in a number of interconnected ways.
Another game that looks insane is Feudum. It’s a super heavy game that happens all within an Adventure Time-like world. Which makes it unique. As most of the heavier games tend to focus on realism.
There is a new expansion for it coming out called Rudders and Ramparts.
The Tiny Epic games has a new baby. Tiny Epic Tactics. It looks to bring the tactical game play of Advance Wars, and Fire Emblem series to board games. And features a interesting 3D board.
Have you played any of the Tiny Epic games before? Would love to hear your thoughts.
Lastly is the new game from the creators of Exploding Kittens. Which I disliked. It looks to blend simple card play with a physical throwing element. I can already tell I’ll hate it, but will be jealous of those who get a great laugh out of it.
That’s all for this week.
On a personal note, I’m sick again. I’ve had 3 different variations of the flu over the past 6 weeks. It’s killer man. Right now I have this headache like my wife’s butt. It just won’t quit.
In other news, I also went to the psychiatrist to deal with my anxiety issues I talked about previously. It was really enjoyable and I learnt a lot about myself. I’ve also been doing a special meditation course on Headspace (a smartphone app) on anxiety. Which has helped me greatly as well.
See you next week!
